Joe Thomson, avid for art, is a self-taught, experimental artist and poet. Since 1993, Thomson has attended many technical and artistic workshops at local colleges. Over the past decade, he has also maintained many personal contacts attending the Art & Ideas Group and the Art & Philosophy Collision Group in Rochester, NY.
His travel inspired, artistically creative preoccupations include color collage, astratto (abstract) pen & ink drawings, poetic sonnets, copper plate etching prints on Japanese papers, abstract nature photography, polyester plate lithography, and ceramic kiln and raku tile firing. Thomson’s pocket concertina, handbook construction publications offer personal, portable and printed editions of the unique art and textual content creations on this website. Born in Strathclyde, Scotland, in 1943, Thomson is a graduate of Glasgow University, Scotland. He met his wife, Linda, in Paris, France, immigrated to Canada in 1976 during the economic recession, and later to the United States. The couple settled in Rochester, NY, where Thomson began his own Technical Sales company, GSC Representatives, covering the Western New York Region for International, Electronic Manufacturers. Inspired by his visits to Milan and Florence, Italy in 2019, Thomson created folios of astratto drawings. These drawings are available for sale in sets of originals and prints and are on digital display on the Folios page of this website (https://www.museoastratto.com/folios.html). |
